India and the Nordic countries have decided to elevate their relationship to a Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership. The decision was taken during the 3rd India-Nordic Summit in Oslo, where Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi held talks with his counterparts from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland.
Addressing a joint press statement, PM Modi said India and the Nordic nations “have a clear and united stand on terrorism: No compromise, no double standards”.
He added that in this era of global tensions and conflicts, both sides would work together to strengthen the rules-based global order.
“Whether it is Ukraine or West Asia, we will continue to support the earliest resolution of conflicts and efforts towards peace,” said PM Modi.
“Our shared commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and multilateralism makes us natural partners,” Modi noted, adding, “Today, we decided to elevate India-Nordic relations to a Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership. With this green technology partnership, we will ensure a better future for the entire world.”
The Prime Minister’s Office said the summit reflected the expanding scope of India’s partnership with the Nordic region, with discussions covering sustainability, innovation, clean energy, emerging technologies, trade, investments and the blue economy.
PM Modi later departed for Italy after concluding his visit to Norway. In a post on X, he described the visit as “very fruitful” and thanked the people and government of Norway for their warmth and friendship.
Putin to attend BRICS Summit in New Delhi in September
Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 12-13 this year under India’s chairmanship. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov confirmed the visit.
This will be Putin’s second visit to India in less than a year. He had earlier visited New Delhi in December 2025 for the India-Russia Annual Summit.
Earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited India and called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the meeting, Lavrov briefed the Prime Minister on bilateral cooperation and discussed regional and global issues, including the situations in Ukraine and West Asia. Lavrov later stated that PM Modi had reaffirmed his plan to visit Russia later this year.
Trump calls San Diego mosque shooting a ‘terrible situation’
US President Donald Trump described the deadly shooting at a mosque in San Diego as a “terrible situation”. Three people were killed in the attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday.
Two teenage suspects, aged 17 and 19, were later found dead inside a vehicle near the mosque. San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said they “appear to have died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds”. Authorities said one of the suspects had taken a firearm from their parents’ home and left behind a suicide note containing writings related to racial pride. Hate speech was also reportedly found scrawled on one of the weapons.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “At the mosque, they’re giving a briefing. It’s a terrible situation. I’ve been given some early updates but we’re going to be going back and looking at it very strongly.”
WHO evaluating vaccines and treatments for Ebola outbreak in DR Congo
The World Health Organization said it is examining whether any candidate vaccines or treatments could be used against the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which it has declared a public health emergency of international concern.
The current outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, for which no approved vaccine or treatment currently exists.
“At the international level, we are looking at what candidate vaccines or treatment are available and if any could be of use in this outbreak,” said Anne Ancia, WHO’s representative in DRC.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he was “deeply concerned about the scale and speed of the epidemic” and would convene an emergency meeting on the crisis later in the day. The outbreak has so far killed at least 131 people, with more than 500 suspected cases reported.
