Guinness record: Turkey community cooks 6,840 litres of baked beans in giant pot

How many beans are too many? Guinness World Records recently acknowledged the effort of one community in Turkey, that prepared 6840 litres of beans in a giant container. The city of Kelkit’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry worked alongside the Gümüşhane Governorship, to create the largest pot of baked beans in the world.

They decided to make the eye-boggling record attempt last month, with their region’s specialty Kelkit Şeker Fasulyesi, also known as Kelkit beans.  The result was grand. The container reportedly weighed the equivalent to over a whopping 15,000 cans of baked beans! Spilling the beans on their motivations, the organisers said, “This title is a historic achievement for Kelkit, Gümüşhane and our region. It represents international recognition of our agricultural heritage, our local product and our community’s collective effort.” They thanked all the people involved, recognising the efforts of farmers, culinary teams, engineers, food safety professionals, sponsors, public institutions, and volunteers.
“The record belongs to the entire community,” they said.

Pardon the inconvenience

Technology has made us choose convenience. Not in former 7-Eleven store in Seattle which was recently transformed into an “Inconvenience Store” featuring items including pre-tangled USB cords. The interactive art exhibits “abstracted interpretations” of goods one finds at a store.
