Israel orders Hebron cordon, prepares for wider West Bank closure

Israeli soldiers shot and killed two gunmen near Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Friday morning after preventing an alleged attack. According to the Israeli military, the men were armed with an M16 rifle and a handgun.
Emergency responders reported that at least five people were injured—some critically—and evacuated to Israeli hospitals. The statement noted that active gunfire was still ongoing when responders arrived at the scene near the Yehuda Junction.
Following the attack, the military established roadblocks and closures across nearby Palestinian towns. A few hours later, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office instructed security forces to immediately cordon off Hebron and prepare for a complete closure of the entire West Bank starting on Friday.
The security escalation occurs days before Israel’s October 27 election, where voters will decide whether to grant Netanyahu another term, three years after the Hamas-led attacks triggered the war.
