Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Wednesday, offering condolences over the loss of lives caused by the devastating flash floods in the Himalayan nation and assuring Nepal of India’s support.
Balendra Shah later expressed his gratitude to Modi for the call, saying Nepal appreciated India’s solidarity and offer of assistance during the crisis.

In a post on X, the Nepal Prime Minister’s Office said Shah thanked Modi for his “kind call and deep condolences”.
Balendra Shah also expressed appreciation for India’s offer of assistance, describing the gesture as a reflection of the enduring relationship between the two neighbouring countries.
The response came as Nepal continued to deal with the aftermath of severe flooding that has caused deaths, widespread damage and left several people missing.

India offers humanitarian assistance
During his conversation with Shah, Modi conveyed India’s readiness to provide all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal.
The Indian Prime Minister’s outreach comes as rescue and relief operations continue in areas affected by the flash floods.
The disaster has particularly affected northern parts of Nepal, with Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading among the areas reporting significant damage.
Bhote Koshi flooding causes devastation
The flash floods were triggered by the overflowing Bhote Koshi River, causing extensive destruction in affected areas.
Reports have indicated damage to homes, roads, markets, hydropower infrastructure and other facilities.
Authorities and rescue agencies have been working to assess the extent of the destruction and locate people reported missing.
The situation has also raised concerns over tourists and foreign nationals caught in the affected regions.
India-Nepal ties in focus
The exchange between Modi and Shah comes against the backdrop of the longstanding relationship between India and Nepal.
The two leaders have previously spoken about strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation between the neighbouring countries. Modi had also congratulated Shah after he assumed office as Nepal’s Prime Minister earlier this year, expressing confidence that India-Nepal friendship and cooperation would reach new heights.
With rescue operations continuing, India’s offer of assistance adds to ongoing efforts to provide relief to those affected by the floods.
